2004 Race: St. Petersburg, Florida

RACE REPORT:   June 27 — finished 8th place  • • •  Race photos

The #7 Lucas Oil team raced in the St. Petersburg, Florida Offshore Super Series race with over 30 Super Series race boats at the event headquartered at the Vinoy Park.

"St. Pete is one of our favorite races", commented Nigel Hook, Captain of the Lucas Oil Team. "I have to say one of the reasons has to be our partnership with local British Pub, Moon Under Water, the best food and beer in Florida." One of Nigel's favorite English beers, Old Speckled Hen, was out, but fortunately plenty of Tetley's Ale was available.

The challenge for the weekend was again the weather — it was extraordinarily hot!

Hot enough to cause problems on the race course with the #7 Lucas Oil succumbing to the temperature with an overheated engine.

With lightening striking later on in the day, the rest of the racing was cancelled. Safety is always number one, and when the rescue helicopters are restricted from flying, the race stops.

Lucas Oil was awarded an official 8th position.
