The Offshore
Super Series (OSS) Powerboat Racing Association announces
its first race of the season for its national tour. The tour will begin
in Biloxi, Mississippi, with Smokin’ the Sound held April 23-25,
2004.
“The entire Mississippi Gulf Coast area has rolled out the red
carpet for us,” said Elaine Motl, CEO of OSS. “We are thrilled
to open our season in Biloxi.”
Conveniently located behind Casino Row, the race course will run through
the Mississippi Sound. Spectators will easily be able to watch and hear
the powerboats rip across the water in a straightaway perfect for viewing.
“The racers will love this course, and all seats will be courtside,” said
Paul Whittier, President of OSS.
A large turnout is expected for Smokin’ the Sound as the inaugural
race for OSS. The three-day event will have special activities in Offshore
Village, including live music.
“Our local race producers are well organized, and OSS is anticipating
an excellent event,” Motl said.
Gene Oswalt, Executive Director of Cruisin’ the Coast, has been
working with OSS to bring the largest, fastest, state-of-the art canopy
boats to race in Biloxi.
“Smokin’ the Sound is going to be a great event for the sponsors,
racers and spectators,” Oswalt said. “We look forward to hosting
the first OSS race and watching the event grow in the years to come.”
OSS is a not for profit organization dedicated to the further development
and growth of offshore powerboat racing in North America.
